About this MacBook Pro
This MacBook Pro 2021 model was officially released on October 18, 2021. Apple introduced its latest and most powerful chip in this 16-Inch MacBook Pro series. This model is identical to the 14-Inch MacBook Pro M1 Max 2021 models. However, the main differences are bigger display sizes, more RAM, and more GPU cores. This MacBook Pro 2021 series has some clear improvements as compared to its 2020 MacBook Pro Intel predecessors.
The M1 Max chip used in this notebook has 10 cores (8 performance cores and 2 efficiency cores). A RAM of 32 GB is installed on this chip with 32-core Apple GPU operating parallelly. It features a big display size of 16.2-Inch. This model uses the Mini LED panel. Moreover, it can adaptively ramp the refresh rate up to 120Hz, delivering a smoother display. It comes with the default 1 TB SSD standard storage. It provides users with a wide range of ports and connectivity, including 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, an SDXC-capable SD card slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a MagSafe three power port.
Other notable features of this model include a high-quality 1080p webcam, six speaker system, Magic Keyboard with TouchID, a bigger battery, and huge trackpad.
This MacBook Pro comes installed with macOS Monterey 12.0.1 and can be upgraded to the latest macOS. It weighs nearly 4.8 lbs (2.2 kg) with the dimensions of 0.66-Inch (height) x 14.01-Inch (width) x 9.77-Inch (depth) (when closed).

The MacBook Pro 16-Inch M1 Max model features onboard 1 TB SSD memory, which is also configurable to 2 TB, 4 TB, or 8 TB of onboard SSD storage at the time of system purchase at additional cost.
Screen Size and Resolution
Apple presented mini-LED technology, known as Liquid Retina XDR, for the display. It looks stunning with a display size of 16.2-inch and a display resolution of 3456 x 2234. It delivers up to 1,000 nits sustained and 1600 nits peak brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Apple also added ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates up to 120 Hz in this model.
Processor & Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
The CPU of this notebook is an M1 Max chip with 10 cores making it a very powerful and immensely responsive laptop. The cores are divided into 2 performance clusters with four cores each + 1 efficiency cluster with two cores. Compared to M1 Pro models, this notebook features a larger chip with additional GPU cores, a larger cache, more RAM, and more memory bandwidth (400 GB/s). A 32-core Apple GPU is also installed, featuring four GPU clusters with eight cores each. To further increase the overall performance of the system, a Neural Engine having 16 cores is integrated into the system.
Memory & Architecture
This MacBook Pro is a 64-bit architecture. Moreover, this unit is set up with 32 GB of LPDDR5-6400 SDRAM, shared between the CPU and the GPU and has a shared System Level Cache of 48 MB.
Battery Life
This notebook’s high-performance processors are powered by 100 W h Li-Poly battery. Apple claims that it can provide up to 21 hours of battery time.
Upgradability
This MacBook Pro has a storage capacity of 1 TB which can be upgraded to 2 TB, 4 TB, or 8 TB of onboard SSD storage. The RAM is also upgradeable from 32 GB to 64 GB. It comes with macOS 12.0.1 (21A558), and is fully compatible with macOS Ventura (macOS 13).
