The iMac Pro “18-Core” was released in December 2017, and is designed to handle demanding pro workflows such as pro photo work, pro video editing, advanced graphics editing, virtual reality content creation, and real-time 3D rendering. This powerful workstation is powered by an Intel Xeon W processor with 18 cores as well as an Apple T2 chip with an integrated image signal processor, system management controller, audio controller, and SSD controller. The main frequency is 2.5GHz and it can be boosted up to 4.3GHz.
The 27-inch iMac also has a built-in 1080p “FaceTime HD” webcam, stereo speakers, four microphones, and a 27″ 5120×2880 LED-backlit 16:9 widescreen IPS DCI-P3 “Retina 5K” display, all packed in a thin, dark “Space Gray” housing.
The image signal processor can work with the FaceTime Full HD camera to enable enhanced tone mapping, improved exposure control, and face detection-based auto exposure and auto white balance. The storage is encrypted by the hardware with no effect on the SSD’s performance, keeping the Intel Xeon W processor free for user workflow. Besides that, secure boot ensures that only operating system software trusted by Apple loads at startup.
In order to handle the thermal energy needed for the processor. Apple redesigned the thermal management system in the iMac Pro Series, and after that, there was a 75% increase in airflow needed for the CPU. The iMac Pro can handle 500 watts of power (67% more power than the previous generation 27″ iMac).
The iMac’s communication ports are much faster than the ports on previous generation iMacs, such as the 10Gb Ethernet compared to the 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet port found on the previous generation iMacs.
The device comes with a space gray Apple Magic Keyboard with a numeric keypad and the Apple Magic Mouse 2.
The standard installed size is 32GB (32GB of 2666MHz DDR4 ECC), which is configurable to 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB. The storage memory of the 1TB SSD is configurable to 2 TB, or 4 TB (maximum).
The diagonal display size iz 27 inch and the resolution is 5120 x 2880 pixel with the LED-backlit and the brightness of 500 nits. The screen features Retina technology and 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen.
The pre-installed operating system is MacOS: X 10.13.2 (17C2111).
Imac Pro features a 2.5 GHz Intel Xeon W processor with eighteen independent processor “cores” on a single chip. It has 42.75MB of cache, 32 GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 ECC SDRAM, and a 1 TB SSD (storage memory). The graphics processor is a Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8 GB of dedicated HBM2 video memory (Configurable to Radeon Pro Vega 64/64x graphics processor with 16GB of HBM2 memory).
