The Apple TV 1st Generation is a device that makes it possible to stream iTunes content from Macs or PCs to its High definition display. It comes with its own 40 GB/160 GB hard drive storage and has connectivity options of HDMI, component video and audio and optical audio. The option for Ethernet and wireless support is available along with a single USB 2.0 port.
The device comes with a 40 GB hard drive that can hold an estimated 50 hours of movies and TV shows, 9000 songs and 25,000 Apple TV viewable photos. A 160 GB option is also introduced with an estimated capacity of 200 hours of videos, 36,000 songs or 25,000 photos.
The Apple TV 1st Generation has a Single display output and could support multiple resolutions.
The Apple TV 1st generation required a Mac running MacOS X 10.3.9 or higher or a PC running Windows XP Home or Professional (SP2) either with a copy of iTunes 7.1 or higher, a wireless network (802.11g/n for wireless video streaming) or a 10/100Base-T Ethernet network, as well as a HD widescreen television.
The Apple TV 1st generation comes with MacOS X 10.4.7 (8N5107) for its operating system and runs on a 1.0 GHz Pentium M processor. It has an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 graphics processor with 64 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM included for its video card.
The Apple TV 1st generation is equipped with a 2 MB Level 2/Level 3 cache plus a 400 MHz frontside bus with 256 MB onboard DDR2 SDRAM.
The standard RAM that comes with the Apple TV is 256 MB capacity and cannot be upgraded beyond that. The Operating System of the Apple TV cannot be upgraded from its pre-installed MacOS X 10.4.7 (8N5107). The Apple TV 1st generation comes with dimensions of 28mm×197mm×197mm and a weight of 2.4 lbs (1.09 kg)
