About this MacBook Pro
The Apple MacBook Pro “M3 Pro” 16-inch model was released in late 2023. This model was introduced on October 30, 2023, and it brings several enhancements over its MacBook Pro 2022 predecessors, including a brighter screen, a more powerful processor, and a new color option.
At the heart of the MacBook Pro is the Apple M3 Pro processor. This 3 nm, 64-bit SoC features a 12-core CPU (6 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores) with a clock speed of 4.05 GHz. Accompanying the CPU is an 18-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, making it a powerhouse for both professional and personal use. The memory bandwidth of this model is 150 GB/s, ensuring swift and efficient data processing.
The MacBook Pro M3 Pro comes standard with either 18 GB or 36 GB of “unified” onboard RAM, which can be upgraded at the time of purchase but not afterwards. For those needing more power, configurations with the M3 Max processor allow for even higher RAM capacities, up to 96 GB or 128 GB, depending on the specific CPU/GPU combination chosen.
Storage options are also flexible, with the standard model shipping with a 512 GB onboard SSD. This can be upgraded to 1 TB, 2 TB, or 4 TB at the time of purchase, though like the RAM, the storage is not user-upgradable post-purchase.
The display is a standout feature, with a 16.2-inch LED-backlit Liquid Retina XDR screen. It boasts a resolution of 3456×2234 at 254 ppi, offering up to 1000 nits of sustained brightness, a peak of 1600 nits for HDR content, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The screen supports 1 billion colors, Wide color (P3), True Tone, and ProMotion technology for adaptive refresh rates up to 120 Hz.
For connectivity, the MacBook Pro M3 Pro includes Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SDXC-capable SD card slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It also features a MagSafe 3 power connector for charging.
The built-in 1080p FaceTime HD webcam, a high-fidelity six-speaker sound system with force-canceling woofers, a backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, and a large Force Touch trackpad round out the impressive feature set.
In terms of physical dimensions, this 16-inch model measures 0.66 inches in height, 14.01 inches in width, and 9.77 inches in depth, weighing approximately 4.7 lbs (2.14 kg). It is available in two colors: silver and a new “Space Black” option.
The integrated battery offers an Apple-estimated 15-22 hours of runtime, making it suitable for extended use without needing to recharge frequently.
