The Mac Pro released in 2008 has some differences from its predecessors. The Mac Pro Quad Core is powered by 2.8 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Intel Xeon E5462. It maintains all the ports that the original launch machine including 5 USB 2.0 ports, two FireWire “400” ports, two FireWire “800” ports, and four PCIe expansion slots. The graphics processor is ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256 MB of GDDR3 memory and two dual-link DVI ports.

The device has 2 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 EEC “fully-buffered” FB-DIMM memory for its RAM. This is centered around a 64-bit architecture.

Although the Mac Pro comes with 2 GB of RAM, but it can be upgraded up to 64 GB of RAM. The operating system of the Mac Pro can be upgraded from its pre-installed Mac OS X 10.5.1 (9B2117) up to MacOS X 10.11.x. This Mac Pro can also host Windows XP SP2 (32-Bit) and more recently Windows 7 (64-Bit). This Mac Pro has the dimensions of 511 mm × 206 mm × 475 mm and weighs 42.4 lbs (19.2 kg).
