You can upgrade to Snow Leopard if you have 1GB of memory.
But, you can not upgrade to Mountain Lion OS 10.8. Mountain Lion does not support iMacs older than mid-2007. iMac5,1 was released in September 2006 and the maximum OS it supports is Lion OS 10.7.
