All iPhone models running iOS 8.0 or later now feature an app icon on the Lock screen. These shortcuts appear based on your location. For example, your Starbucks app may appear when you’re near a Starbucks location. The Lock screen app shortcuts also works with the Apple Watch. The icon on the Lock screen will match the last app you were using on your Apple Watch. This allows you to quickly perform other tasks on your iPhone that you can’t perform on your Watch, such as respond to emails.
