The Apple Watch Series 9, introduced on September 12, 2023, marks a continued evolution in Apple’s smartwatch line. It retains the familiar design of the Series 8 and earlier models, which has become iconic in the smartwatch industry. The Series 9 is available in both 45mm and 41mm case sizes, with options for aluminum or stainless steel bodies. It maintains the 10.7mm thickness, has an IP6X dust resistance rating, and is water-resistant up to 50 meters. The weight varies between approximately 32 and 39 grams depending on the model, and it’s compatible with a wide range of bands.      

In terms of technical specifications, the Series 9 runs on a dual-core Apple S9 processor, enhanced with a 4-core Neural Engine. However, the exact clock speed is not specified by Apple. Alongside the advanced processor, the watch features a W3 Apple wireless chip, a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip for Precision Finding, a blood oxygen sensor, an electrical heart sensor, a third-generation optical heart sensor, an always-on altimeter, and dual temperature sensors. 

The 41mm model features a roughly 1.8″ LTPO OLED Always-On Retina display, with a resolution of 352×430 pixels and a brightness of up to 2000 nits. Apple Watch Series 9 models with an aluminum case use Ion-X glass, while models with a stainless steel case are covered by sapphire crystal.      

For connectivity, all Series 9 models support Wi-Fi 4 (802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 5.3. The Cellular version, particularly the one sold in China, supports multiple LTE bands and UMTS, along with L1 GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou. 

The watch’s battery life is estimated at up to 18 hours for typical use, which can be extended to 36 hours with the Low Power Mode, though this mode disables some functions, including the Always-On Display. The Apple Watch Series 9 is Apple’s first carbon-neutral product when purchased in the aluminum version with a Sport Loop band. The color options for the aluminum housing include pink, nearly black “Midnight”, warm gray “Starlight”, silver, and (PRODUCT) RED, or a stainless steel housing in gold, silver, or graphite.   

The Series 9’s design, while familiar, is considered one of the most comfortable and best-designed among smartwatches. Its rectangular shape and wide color choices, combined with the new FineWoven material for bands, make it versatile for different styles and comfortable for all-day wear.
